BLOG 6
I found that people nowadays tend to addict to labelling others, especially to those who are not like majority people. I’m wondering, years or even centuries ago, how people at that time called the group of students who are being labelled as ADHD now? The term ADHD is more of a blanket term used to describe a wide range of behavioural symptoms that many children and adults exhibit, most of which are factors that everyone of us displays at some point during our lives. So is it really fair to label a person with “ADHD” when any of us at any given time would fit at least a couple of those criteria? Moreover, is it really proper to prescribe psycho-stimulant medications to children? There is an old Chinese saying literally means “ as a medicine, it is more or less toxic”. Pharmaceutical intervention should be the last option to consider. As parents, instead of hoping the medicine could cure the “disease” once for all, why not seek more harmonious way to help children, like yoga or motor activities. Also for educators, we can’t just label students with ADHD to save our trouble and leave them to their parents. Teachers and parents should work together to help students with learning difficulties before seeking to pharmaceutical intervention.
