blog three, keying :)

While reading the article “Stanford Study: ‘Culturally Relevant’ Teaching Boosts GPA, Attendance for At-Risk Youth, So Why Not Make It Universal?”, I was impacted by how strongly political stances can influence educational systems and contents within a school. I remembered there were several discussions about teacher-student relationships throughout my M.Ed studies. It seems that education is sometimes unpredictable and complicated to control because teachers and students bring their own study preferences and beliefs, their sets of values, and their cultural backgrounds into classrooms. School systems are also influenced by the public media, a market economy and government policies, which may lead to multiple negotiations among school principals, teachers, students and students’ parents. We make great efforts to be successful in academic performance, but according to the article there seems to be a lack of consideration of how well historical and cultural events as well as character education are presented in our study materials.
