Post 6 Recognizing Blind Spots

One of the areas I would like to continue working on as a counsellor is being able to recognize where my blind spots are and what I can do to be more aware of them. I think this issue comes to the forefront for me when I am asked to evaluate what my strengths and weaknesses are and I realize that I find it to be a difficult task. I like to believe that I am always doing a great job at what I am doing, but the truth is I am just beginning my career in therapy and I am going to be making mistakes and overlooking some areas. Part of my difficulty may stem from not enjoying spending a lot of time looking at my shortcomings, but it is an important practice to partake in if I want to continue to grow and develop the skills I have learned. After spending some more time reflecting I find I am able to better identify the areas I excel at and which I would like to spend more time improving. However the next more difficult step after identifying the areas to improve on is finding the ways to improve the areas, beyond just being mindful of them.
