Blog#5 role of ELLs


From my program, one thing that I found was that in English teaching, role of ELLs is a essential as well as important component. Robinson,Keogh and Kusuma-Powell(n.d.) said in their article that new comers to the country and to the international school community can be regard as pure type of ESL students. Apart from that, SLIFE (DeCapua &Marshall, 2010), adult learners with limited literacy (Bigelow & Schwarz,2010) and other special group of learners all contribute to ELLs this unique and broad population while I used to think of that ELLs are those students who need to learn English and I had no idea that they are grouped according to specific needs.So I began to be aware that teaching methods with a huge range should be applied in light of the diversity of ELLs. For instance, the learning paradigm called MALP( (DeCapua &Marshall, 2010) that we discussed before was brought out to assist SLIFE in developing English proficiency. Once identify the role of L2 learners, I suppose that I can plan and organize the learning session with a clearer teaching purpose that meets their needs.
